The Wedding Sand Ceremony- Its Purpose

Unity candle has been the symbol of joining two families through marriage of their children for many past years. However a change in this tradition has been seen many couples have a blended family with more than a set of parents, as step-parents are present often at the ceremony. The tradition of choosing who will light the two candles representing the bride's and groom's families has now been replaced by many unique ways of incorporating the two families like the sand ceremony.

The sand ceremony is now the choice of many couples during the celebration as its more fun than lighting of the candles. This ceremony is becoming more and more popular especially during beach weddings, although some may not have heard of it. What happens during this ceremony? A table which can be decorated with your wedding theme is placed near the front of the ceremony site. A single vase will be placed at the center of the table. This is the only traditional part of the ceremony as this vase will hold the individuals gifts or contribution from each special person that will take part in the ceremony. Check out more here.

Two different colors of sand will be chosen to represent the bride's and groom's family which is often done by the couples. Now, as each parent walks done the aisle, they walk to the sand table and pour in a small amount of their color of sand, alternating colors as they the joining of their families.  The smaller containers which have the different colors of sand are placed around the unity vase. Often, grandparents are included in the ceremony, whether they are present or they no longer exist.

Once the parents are seated, the celebration of marriage takes place. Near the end of the ceremony, the couple will walk to the table and pour in the remaining two containers of sand and seal the Unity Vase. The couple may even ask to have the vase blessed if they are having a religious wedding ceremony. As small as one grain of sand is, when joined together with several thousand grains, it becomes substantial. As the Unity Candle represents that the two families are now one, so will the Unity Vase. The bride and groom will also have a beautiful cherished gift from their wedding ceremony to display long after the celebration is over. Hence the purpose of sand ceremony from sandsationalsparkle.com to symbolize the unity of the two families.
